Practice Information

Many people wanting to join are afraid because they never swam with a group or they feel they are out of shape.  You have nothing to fear.  You will find our swimmers go out of their way to help you feel comfortable
and confident.

First Practice

Tell your coach where you are with swim fitness and they will help you find the correct lane.  You can stop whenever you want.  If you need more rest, take it.  The first practice isn't about proving yourself.  It's about getting to know the coaches, the participants, and how a practice works.

You do not need any special equipment like paddles, fins, or a snorkel  for the first practice, but bring them if you have them.

For Experienced Swimmers
If you have been swimming on your own or with another group, we ask that you tell the coach the interval you would do for 10x100 freestyle, and what pace you are maintaining on that interval.  If this is Greek to you, don't worry!  There is runner lingo, cyclist lingo, and the worst is swimmer lingo!  You will pick it up in time.

Where to Go and What To Expect
Our practices are located in Clermont FL.  If you are not a member of the pool facility, you will need to sign a waiver prior to practice.  Please enter through the South gate by the soccer fields, but it's OK if you come in the front entrance for your first practice.  If you come in front, tell the front desk it is your first practice with Lake Gators and ask them how to get to the pool.   Please arrive at least 10 minutes early for your first practice.

You will find the coaches on the pool deck usually at the far end of the pool.  You can ask the lifeguards if you aren't sure.

I suggest you have a proper suit for swimming.  Shorts are ok but create a lot of drag and make it difficult to swim.  See equipment pages for examples.  Bring goggles and a towel as well.
