Olympian & Elite Swimming Coach

Mateo De Angulo is an Olympian and elite swimming coach with extensive international competitive experience. He represented his country at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, competing among the world’s best athletes on the sport’s biggest stage.

Throughout his international career, he also competed at multiple World Championships including Rome 2009, Shanghai 2011, Barcelona 2013, and Kazan 2015, as well as the Pan American Games in Guadalajara 2011 and Toronto 2015. Earlier in his career he represented his country at the Junior World Championships in Monterrey, Mexico in 2008.

At the collegiate level, Mateo competed for the Florida State University, where he became one of the most accomplished distance swimmers in program history. He is a NCAA All-American and remains the school record holder in the 1000 and 1650 yard freestyle events, highlighted by his record-setting performance in the 1650 freestyle at the NCAA Championships.

Following his competitive career, Mateo transitioned into coaching, bringing Olympic-level experience and technical expertise to athlete development. As a coach, he has helped develop and guide swimmers who went on to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games, demonstrating his ability to prepare athletes for the highest levels of international competition.

Today, Mateo focuses on developing swimmers of all levels—from beginners to elite athletes—specializing in stroke technique, race strategy, endurance training, and high-performance preparation. His coaching philosophy is rooted in the same principles that guided him through an Olympic career: technical precision, disciplined training, and a pursuit of excellence.
