While these items are not required, we use them during workouts to enhance training techniques and fitness. Goggles and of course a bathing suit are required but both are a personal preference regarding style.

Pull Buoy and Paddles
Swim Paddles and Buoy are a must. While all equipment is optional, you will need to purchase these ASAP. We suggest the basic style if it's your first pair, a medium for men and a small for women.
Sporti is most economical at around $11 and perfectly fine. Speedo is another trusted brand and around $25.

Pull Buoy's go hand in hand with the Paddles, but we also will use the pull buoys without paddles at times to perfect the stroke. There are several brands that range from $9 to $16. In this instance, I don't like the Speedo pull buoy or any brand that has one end smaller than the other. There is a USMS buoy, a Sporti and a TYR on SwimOutlet.com that we recommend
Fins
We use fins for kicking, speed work, and to assist with stroke technique. If you are on a budget, you can wait for these, but you will want to add them to your swim bag ASAP. The key with your first pair of fins are to get the correct length. You don't want them too long or too short. The FINIS Zoomers are too short(do not buy these). We have not used the Sporit Fin or the TYR but they are the appropriate length. I use the Speedo Switch Blade (shown below). Fins are priced from $25 to $60
Snorkel
Yes, believe it or not, we use a snorkel. This is the last item to add to your swim bag but very important when working on swim technique. I have only used the yellow FINIS snorkel. It works well and is the proper shape. It can be a bit hard on the forehead.
